The Energy of the Sun

The sun’s heat is easy to feel on our skin, our faces, making us warm or downright hot and sweaty.  However, the sun’s energy is as strong as the rays of the sun and changes throughout the day.  As with the moon’s changing phases, the sun also has phases.  For your spellwork and magickal associations, you can harness your specific phase’s energy in one day, rather than wait days or weeks for the proper moon phase needed.  This is not to say that the sun’s energy is more desirable than the moon’s energy, but it is nice to have the opportunity each day to find something that can work with you towards your desired goal.

Sun Associations:

Zodiac – Aries, Cancer, Leo

Day – Sunday

Time of Day – Noon

Element – Fire

Colors – Gold, Orange, Yellow

Astrologically, the fifth house is the house of Leo and the Sun.  This is the house of creativity, pleasure, children, love affairs, risk-taking, and father figures or the Gods.  Understanding these basic associations can aid in crafting your magick to align more appropriately.  Use the energy of the sun to help to attract what you desire into your life, with new beginnings at work and home, and in love and healthy lifestyles. Perhaps instead of doing a spell for becoming organized, you approach it with the desire to find a creative solution to manage the mess you may have.  Allow the sun to fill you with the energy to attract the solution by creative inspiration, followed by sheer will and determination to make it happen.

Now, when would you work such a spell?  As mentioned before, the sun goes through phases each day.  Once you understand the flow of the sun’s energy, you can align your intent with the phase that compliments it most.

The Sun’s Phases – Times of the Day

Sunrise/Dawn – start a new project, rejuvenation/vitality, beginnings, youth, hope, finding purpose

Morning – build positive energy

Noon/Midday – strength, will, force, determination, overcoming obstacles

Afternoon – clarity, business decisions, financial matters

Dusk/Twilight – Banishing, endings, simplifying, making changes, the otherworld, overcoming sadness

Midnight – crossroads, endings, release, divination, and psychic activity

Add a little extra SUN energy to your ritual or spellwork by using gold, yellow, or orange candles.  Burn incense of cinnamon, clove, or frankincense.  Call on deities or angels associated with the sun.
