Happy Solstice!

Tonight, at 5:23 EST, Winter officially begins with the Winter Solstice. We mark this time by taking our cues from the woods. We snuggle down for warmth, and we feel a stillness in our environments. While the rest of the world seems to be bustling by with busy tasks and holiday preparations, there is much more to be gained by stopping and absorbing the energy of the season in our natural world.

This year we have a few treats in store for us. First there is the Ursids meteor shower that might be possible to view from your vantage point of the night sky. These meteors have been visible since the 17th, set to peak at the 22nd, and will last be visible on the 25th. However, treat number two might prevent you from getting the best glance at the meteors, and that would be the nearly full Cold Moon, set to reach 100% at 12:48 pm EST.

The Ursids meteor shower reminds us that the BEAR lends us protective energy and that there is a need to take time to rest. If you are looking for an animal connection, the bear is highlighted this week. Remind yourself that while so much of your world seems busy with added stresses of forced celebrations and traditions that seem out of sync with the slower flow of the wilderness around us, taking time to sit and observe that stillness can bring you great reserves of strength. Or, be like the bear, and take a nap!

Happy Solstice to you and yours!
