This year, I have decided to set intentions rather than making resolutions. Seems like the right thing to do as a witch and magickal practitioner, right? I mean, we see so many people out there doing the resolutions thing and then watch them toss those right out of the window before the month is over. Is it because they were too hard? Or is it that they didn’t assign each of their resolutions the proper value in their life as they envisioned it?
I think that is where the difference lies. If I set the goal, then it means in my mind, my life will be better once this has been achieved. In my own magickal practice, each goal that I wish to attain is honored either by making the declaration out loud or by writing it down.
Words matter! They clarify the goal, don’t you think? So, if I treat my resolutions for the new year as intentions, I might have more respect for actually making them happen!
Furthermore, if it is truly something I want to focus on, then I may even set into motion a new practice or ritual to add more energy into making it become a reality. Spells and rituals are great tools that make us part of actively breathing life into our hopes and dreams. Since I tend to focus more on the positive angle of things I wouldn’t say my goal is to lose weight, even if that is the normal way of thinking about a resolution. Instead, I would focus on the fun things I want to do that would result in weight loss.
For instance, let’s say there is a way of eating that will encourage that weight loss. Then, the best way for me to think of that as a positive would be to immerse myself into trying new recipes and how to make them tasty or magickal. I would focus my intentions towards trying something new, learning a different way to do something and to find joy in adding this to my life.
An intention that I declared for myself this year is to bring ritual into my life. I have never been a ritualistic person, but there is something nice about setting the intention and then gathering the energy and sometimes the tools you need to make the energy work for you. So, if I stay true to my goal of immersing myself in the “recipe” then I will be sharing rituals throughout the year.
To start off on a good note, I have created a pin to use… I love Pinterest! I did some research and made some notes for myself and anyone who is interested in the energy for the January full moon. Now, I guess I need to write a ritual for it, so I have something to share before the full moon, right?
I think if we remember why we set goals at the start of the new year, then we have a better chance of trying to attain them! Write them down, focus on the fun or good it will bring into your life, and make them happen!
Best wishes to you in the new year! Let’s make 2019 fabulous!
